The Orlando Magic are on track to add two more people to their coaching staff.
Mike Batiste and Bruce Kreutzer, who worked under new Magic coach Steve Clifford with the Charlotte Hornets, attended the Magic’s workout of University of Oklahoma point guard Trae Young on Thursday and likely will be signed to contracts soon.
Batiste spent one season with the Hornets. Before that, he worked for the Brooklyn Nets as a player development assistant and worked two seasons as an assistant coach with the NBA Development League’s Canton Charge.
A former power forward, Batiste played 75 games for the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2002-03 season, but he spent the bulk of his professional playing career overseas. He played 10 seasons for Panathinaikos in Greece and helped Panathinaikos win three EuroLeague titles.
Kreutzer spent three seasons as a Hornets assistant coach. Before that, he worked as a shooting consultant for the NBA Development League and for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Batiste and Kreutzer will join assistant coaches Pat Delany and Steve Hetzel, who also worked on Clifford’s staff in Charlotte.
The Magic are looking to hire one more bench coach in the days and weeks ahead.
