Woj bomb to start your day:
Toronto assistant Andy Greer is leaving to become the top assistant coach to Tom Thiibodeau in Minnesota, league sources tell @TheVertical.
Greer was viewed as a likely addition to the Wolves staff after they hired Tom Thibodeau, but earlier reports had him remaining on Dwayne Casey's staff in Toronto where he spent last season and helped improve the defense from 23rd in the league to 11th. However, it appears Thibs has successfully pried him away, luring him even further North, where he will serve as top assistant with the Wolves.
Greer has a long history with Thibs (and Jeff Van Gundy). They were both assistants under Van Gundy with the Knicks and Rockets for several years, and Greer then worked for Thibs in Chicago for five seasons. After the Bulls fired Thibs in 2015, Greer was hired by the Raptors, who apparently valued his contributions and wanted him back.
Greer, like Thibodeau, is known as a defensive coach, and is intimately familiar with the defensive concepts Thibs will try to employ. He's a long-time, well-respected assistant around the NBA, and is a good start to building a coaching staff.
For the Raps perspective, here's the story over at RaptorsHQ.
